At one time, there were two overlapping and competing lines running through the valley:

  1. Sonoma Valley Railroad (Built 1878-1888: eventually became part of North Western Pacific Railroad)
  2. Santa Rosa & Carquinez Railroad (Built 1888: eventually became part of Southern Pacific Railroad)
